Open system

Open systems, such as those used to exchange records with outside parties over the internet, need controls beyond those for closed systems. Part 11 points to measures such as encryption and digital signatures to keep records authentic, intact and confidential.

(9) Open system means an environment in which system access is not controlled by persons who are responsible for the content of electronic records that are on the system.
